*Head of the Don Report*
Racing today in warm but windy conditions over 4,000m on the Don, County came away with a win in Band 2 J16 1x.
Continuing from his win at Runcorn Head in September, Felix’s time of 18:07 was 76’’ faster than the next placed sculler and also placed him 2nd overall in Band 1, 16’’ behind the J16 Band 1 winner; Gameson from St Peters School.
The Head also formed part of the GBU19 trials being run regionally this year. Felix would have placed 15th overall, a credible performance given the age difference.
Well done and congratulations to Felix and Coach Jarvis!

In the girls U19 trials, Ava, and Katie (racing for Shrewsbury School) came 9th and 4th respectively. Both scullers faced steering issues upstream and some tangles with the bank.
Katie’s time of 18:38 was 43’’ from the U19 winner Brittles from Warrington, Ava’s time of 19:05, 70’’ from winning. Ava raced the same GB trials race last week in Gloucester and had similar issues with the bank over the longer 5,000 course but was significantly closer to the winner today. Both scullers now wait on further information from GB Rowing regarding the next stages of the trials process.
Thank you to Tim, Emma and Hellen for coaching and taking boats and to the supporting parents.
Unexpectedly, some of our J16 girls will now race next Sunday at Northwich Head, due to illness in the Derwent crew entries and our being given a last-minute opportunity. Arlo and Coach Webber are also racing but for Derwent.
