Friday 2 May
Congratulations to James (NCRA) and Ethan racing for Sussex University, who came 3rd in the Open Championship LW 2x Time Trial this morning, then 2nd in their Rep to qualify for the A final. In the final they led the field to 500 and in an exciting race came home in 4th. I’m told this is Sussex’s highest ever finish and great to see the crew beating some class crews from Reading and Nottingham.

Saturday 3 May
A tough day on the lake today with some high class racing in all boat classes.
Alex (Loughborough) raced the first TT of the day of Inter 1x, coming 11th, 10secs behind the winner. In the B final Alex finished 3rd placing 9th overall in a class field.
Mary, Maya, Mia & Ebony racing in Inter 4x for Loughborough came home 14th in their TT, placing them in FC. The crew raced maturely from behind to finish 2nd, despite an unfavourable lane which advantaged the winners.
James (Sussex) in LW Champ 1x placed 11th in the TT which put him in the Reps with only two going through to FA. In perhaps the race of the day, five scullers fought it out side by side with James working his way up to finish 3rd, only three seconds behind the winner. In FB James finished 4th after some excellent close racing, overall 9th, one place better than the TT.
Emily (York 2nd crew) also racing in Inter 4x, came 19th, only 2 secs behind York 1st crew. This race placed them in FD where they came 2nd.
A good but tough day’s racing for County athletes.
Sunday 4 May
Despite the change in weather and the medical incident on the bank which resulted in a two hour delay and the cancellation of the semis and any reps, County athletes had a good day.
Highlight was the bronze medal in Champ 1x won by Liv, racing for Nottingham. Only 3 secs separated the first three scullers. Liv will now focus on her new sport Triathlon.
We had two competitors in Inter 1x racing for Loughborough. Maddy excelled finishing 2nd in FB (8th overall) in an excitingly close race, only losing out by 2/100 of a sec after the lead changed several times. This after coming 11th in the TT. Ebony came 26th in the TT progressing to FE. After leading early in the race then settling into 2nd, the field worked its way back into contention. Ebony battled hard and held on to 2nd by 0.4 sec and 26th overall.
Another exciting race came in WLW 1x FB with Heidi (Gloucester) finishing 2nd, 8th overall, with a very solid and consistent performance.
Emily racing for York in Inter 8’s came 39th in the TT. In FG, the crew were 3rd at 500, 2nd halfway and 1st at 1500m but lost out in the tight sprint finish coming 3rd.
After having 6 races on both previous days, James raced today in Inter 4x for Sussex. Coming 15th in the TT and progressing to FC, they held 3rd place throughout.
